How can I help with my child’s progression throughout the program?
Stay involved and communicate! Please communicate with your child’s tutor frequently about their behavior and progress. In addition, please ensure that your child is attending their scheduled sessions on a consistent basis. If they are going to be absent, please notify the tutor. Attendance is crucial to making sure that your child gets the most out of our tutoring program.
How do your tutors help students stay motivated?
Andson Academics’ motivational incentives are vital to the success of our tutoring. Our tutors strive to provide genuine, personal praise and verbal reinforcement. We also provide kid-focused tangible rewards for achievement, including prizes and personalized certificates.
What is the cost of your program?
We realize that during difficult economic times, families may not be able to afford extra educational services outside of school. That’s why we have developed a low-cost tutoring service that is available to all students in Clark County. As of March 2013, all of our Andson Academics sites offer our programs completely free to students and their families.
What makes Andson Academics so effective?
We pride ourselves on our programming being customized to each student’s learning needs. The program uses a combination of diagnostic assessments, engaging differentiated instruction, and reporting. This program not only allows tutors to track students’ progress easily (through CCSD’s Infinite Campus), it also engages students with interactive components. Andson Academics’ distinct advantage is the customized and individualized instruction your child receives from our caring, professional staff.
Do your tutors work with my child’s teachers or school?
Yes. Andson staff will work closely with our students’ teachers and schools to make sure that our student learning plans are aligned with what the student is struggling with in their classroom. We will work diligently to keep teachers up to date on each student’s progress when requested.
Are your tutors qualified to work with children?
Yes. Every teacher is CCSD certified and is subject to background investigation and drug testing. All of our aides come from local schools or colleges, and are certified teachers or paraprofessionals who have completed at least 60 college credit hours.
How do I enroll my child in your program?
Registration is easy! You can complete our registration form online at www.andson.org or in person at one of our tutoring locations. Registration forms can also be faxed to our main office at (702) 785-0021.
How long are your tutoring sessions?
Homework Help sessions typically last for 30 minutes to 1 hour. Tutoring Sessions will directly follow and typically last no more than 1 hour.
Homework Help and Tutoring sessions will take place 4 days per week, with no sessions on Fridays. We follow the CCSD Calendar also – if students do not have school they will not have tutoring. Sessions will take place after school between the hours of 3:00pm-7:00pm (exact hours vary by site).
Where does the tutoring take place?
Our tutoring sessions take place at Boys & Girls Clubs of Henderson facilities, Communities in Schools partner sites, and St. Jude’s Ranch for Children. For a list of locations, please visit their website at www.bgchenderson.org. Private tutoring is also available at our main office, which is located at 11920 Southern Highlands Parkway, STE 101, Las Vegas, NV, 89141. For more information on private tutoring, please contact us at (702) 785-0020.
What if my child does not attend a school in which Andson offers homework help and tutoring?
You can still participate by going to any of our library locations, or The Center. Upon arrival, check with staff on the room location, sign in, and a licensed CCSD teacher will provide assistance as needed. Children under 13 years old must have a parent or guardian present.
Is your curriculum aligned with Nevada’s State Education Standards?
What we provide will align since we use the student’s class coursework as much as possible in our programming.
We also utilize outside materials as well – our web-based program and curriculum books are aligned with the new Common Core State Standards. The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) were adopted by the Nevada State Board of Education in October of 2010 to ensure that Nevada students are college and career ready. What is your program all about?
Andson Academics, in partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Henderson, Communities in Schools, and St. Jude’s Ranch for Children, is proud to offer a unique, blended learning program that combines face-to-face facilitation with a tutor for both Homework Help and Tutoring. Through CCSD’s Parent Link, and Homework Help we provide, we can identify subject areas the student needs assistance with and generate appropriate lessons to meet their needs. We utilize CCSD teachers as well as Nevada State College aides for each student to ensure they have the attention and differentiated instruction they need during sessions. In addition to Homework Help, students receive small-group instruction with a tutor (teacher to student ratio is 1:5) where they work from a teacher-steered curriculum, as well as supplemental, hands-on material to keep them engaged. Parents are welcomed and encouraged to provide feedback and check on their child’s progress.
