Cindy Alamshaw

Meet our sensational Academics Developer, Cindy Alamshaw! Cindy brings warmth into every conversation and takes on her daily tasks with ease. Between the main office and our Boys & Girls Clubs locations, she stepped away from her busy schedule to give us the 411 on things.

Where are you from?

"Chicago, Illinois."

What kind of work have you done in the past?

"I was a special education teacher for 27 years, and an elementary school principal for 12 years. Being principal was my most recent occupation before coming to Andson."

What do you want to accomplish during your time here?

"My goal/wish is to be a valuable resource, a 'go to' person. I want to help the Boys & Girls Clubs staff implement effective Power Hour strategies, techniques and activities to increase student achievement."

Tell us more about what you do with the Boys & Girls Clubs:

"I oversee all the clubs during their Power Hour activities. After I observe the PH, I provide suggestions and feedback on how to reinforce skills to maximize student growth. Our goal is to ensure that there is an academic focus during the PH, even when homework is finished. This is done through games and a variety of student engagement activities. I also provide training to all the staff throughout the year and have created a toolbox of materials and resources for the clubs to use."

What prompted you to join the Andson family?

"Ellen Bordinhao and I have worked together for over 30 years and she told me about all the great work Andson does for children. I immediately wanted to be a part of the team!"

What's the biggest change you want to see in the children you work with?

"I want to encourage all children to reach their full potential. If they are responsible, respectful, and compassionate people, the doors will be opened to them. Children are our most valuable resource. Sometimes all they need is a little help, a little hope, and somebody who believes in them!"

Any children of your own?

"Yes, I have two children. My children and my grandchild (I have one, soon to have two) are the most important people in my life and I want to be able to be the best mom and grandmother I can possibly be by being supportive and loving. They know I am always here for them."

And how do you like to have fun and relax?

"I love reading, I love shopping, I love going for massages and facials. I love to see my grandson. I love cooking and trying new recipes."
